Mystery Block of the Month
Block Patterns
The Mystery Quilt Challenge begins this month. The first block is attached to this email (or mailed for those of you who get it by mail.) You will get a block every month through May, skipping December. In June you will receive the finishing instructions. NOTE: Printed copies of the pattern are available by request. Email, text message or call Beth Raker: 574-220-0116, [email protected] and then you will get a paper copy each month; only one request needed to get on the list. If you cannot attend a meeting, the copy will be mailed.
You can use just a few different fabrics or work scrappy. The list below is for a scrappy quilt. If you don’t want to be scrappy, get the equivalent in just a few fabrics. You will actually need more than 3 different fabrics for some blocks to make the block pattern show to advantage, so you might have to pick up a small piece of a coordinating fabric if you start with just a light, medium and dark. The blocks are 9 inch finished so no single pieces are very large. The finished quilt will be 55 x 73. The first number in each piece below is the number of pieces needed. So 1–1/2 yard means you need 1 piece of material ½ yard by width of fabric. It’s best the pieces that say fat eighth are actual fat eighths rather than long skinny pieces. Light Prints: 6 – fat eighths, 1– 10x13 piece, 1– ¼ yard piece, 2– 5/8 yard pieces, 2 – 1/3 yard pieces, and 1– 1/2 yard piece for middle border Medium Prints: 7 – fat eighths, 2–4x8 pieces, 1 scrap, 5–3/8 yard pieces Dark Prints: 6–fat eighths, 1–8x10 piece, 1–8x8 piece Either Medium or Dark: 1–1 ¼ yard piece for outer border, 1–5/8 yard piece for binding
